Being loved and being worked at the same time — that's a Tuesday. Module 5 brings the con home to the kitchen table.

# What you need to know before you press play

  • Covers intimate manipulation — gaslighting, love-bombing, and coercive control in personal relationships.
  • You'll learn how the techniques from earlier modules run on someone who once heard 'I love you.'
  • How isolation, reality-editing, and intermittent affection combine into control.
  • The defense: trusting your own record of events, and noticing when your sense of reality keeps getting revised for you.
The show
A full-cast audio field course in the dark arts of influence, taught by Space Pirate Zero. Thirteen modules break down how manipulation actually works — cold reading, gaslighting, deepfakes, astroturf — and how to see each move coming, defuse it, and catch yourself running it.

# In this episode

Now the course comes home. Everything you've learned — the warm read, the manufactured trust, belief-by-default — doesn't only live in scams and headlines. It runs at the kitchen table, on people who love and are being handled at the same time.

Module 5 opens quiet and tender, then shows how gaslighting works up close: your memory questioned, your reactions relabeled, your read on reality slowly replaced with someone else's. Mix in affection that comes and goes on someone else's schedule and you get a person managing their own captivity.

The defense is to keep an external record and hold onto it. When your account of what happened keeps getting overwritten, when you're always the one apologizing, that pattern is data. Trusting your own log is how you find the floor again.

# Show notes

Somebody, somewhere, is being loved and worked at the same time. That's not a threat. That's a Tuesday. This here's your field course in the dark arts — how the con lands and how you catch it, running on your own soft meatware. We've walked the fake faces, the mob at the café, the fortune-teller reading a crowd.

Now we come home. This one opens quiet, tender even — everything you've learned so far, run on someone who once heard "I love you." Come sit at the kitchen table with me.

# Frequently asked questions

What is gaslighting and how do you defend against it?

Gaslighting is manipulation that makes you doubt your own memory and perception until you defer to the manipulator's version of reality. Defend against it by keeping an external record of events and trusting it over someone's insistence that it didn't happen.

What does Module 5 teach?

How the course's techniques play out in close relationships — gaslighting, love-bombing, and control — and how to recognize them when they come wrapped in affection.

Is this episode heavy?

It's the most personal module and deals with intimate manipulation directly. It's instructive, not sensational, and contains strong language.
